Super Mario Run apparently requires an internet connection to be played


Super Mario Run is the first new game Nintendo has developed for smartphone devices, and is also one of the rare times that a Mario game being developed for a non-Nintendo system. It should come as no surprise then that Nintendo has decided to take the Mario series back to basics, with Super Mario Run being a side-scrolling auto-runner platformer game and featuring all of the classic Mario features.

In a recent interview, Mario series creator and Super Mario Run producer Shigeru Miyamoto shared more information about the game, and one of the answers he gave was about why Super Mario Run needs an internet connecting. 



He said 'For us, we view our software as being a very important asset for us. But actually, the security element is one of the reasons we decided to go with iPhone and iOS. When pressed, Miyamoto clarified that by security, he meant the risk of privacy.
